Celebration of the 8th Anniversary of the National Apology

sorryshnOn 13 February 2008, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd made a formal apology to Australia’s Indigenous peoples, particularly those whose lives had been blighted by the practice of forced child removal. This defining moment in Australian history was the culmination of years of hard work by Indigenous people and their supporters. Shepparton Reconciliation Group invites you to join in the celebration of the 8th Anniversary of the National Apology on the morning of Friday, 12 February, 2016.


We apologise for the laws and policies of successive Parliaments and governments that have inflicted profound grief, suffering and loss on these our fellow Australians. We apologise especially for the removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, their communities and their country.

Guest Speaker: Paul Briggs OAM

Paul is a Yorta Yorta man with a wealth of experience in Aboriginal community development. He grew up on the banks of the Dungala at Cummeragunja and has been at the forefront of Aboriginal peoples’ rights and advancement since the early 1970’s. Paul is President of Rumbalara Football Netball Club, inaugural chair of Kaiela Institute and the inaugural chair of the AFL’s national Indigenous Advisory Board.
