International Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December. On this day in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Every year in December we recognise and celebrate this day through a week of events, connection, and advocacy. We’ve hosted an annual Oration for over twenty years, highlighting human rights issues as they apply to the everyday lives of Victorians.

During Human Rights Week, we invite all Victorians to engage in activities and start and continue conversations about human rights.

Human rights are basic entitlements that belong to every one of us, regardless of our background, where we live, what we look like, what we think, or what we believe.
