Heritage Open Day – Mosques and Gurdwara Tour


As part of Shepparton’s Heritage Open Day, the Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District will conduct a tour of places of worship. The tour will visit several mosques and the Sikh Gurduara. The tour is free and a lunch will be provided. Bookings are required.


 

Greater Shepparton Heritage Open Day

Greater Shepparton City Council, in association with the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee, is pleased to announce the Greater Shepparton Heritage Open Day to be held on Saturday, 28 October 2017.

The day aims to increase awareness of Greater Shepparton’s diverse and unique range of heritage places, and encourage pride in and understanding of this heritage. Residents are invitted to join and enjoy a pleasant heritage-focused day out.

The Heritage Open Day, conducted by the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee in conjunction with Council, will be a free event held throughout the municipality on Saturday, 28 October 2017 between 10am and 4pm.

Places of Worship Tour

The Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District on behalf of the Greater Shepparton Heritage Open Day welcomes members of the broader community to participate in a day of discovery of Shepparton’s unique cultural places of worship.

The Bus Tour will commence from the Shepparton Library: there is ample car parking opposite the Library.
The Bus Tour will depart at 10:00 am and finish – returning to Shepparton Library at 4:00 pm.

We will take you to the Albanian Mosque, Iraqi Mosque, Turkish Mosque, Afghan Mosque and the Gurdwara Sahib (Sikh temple).

A lunch will be provided at the Turkish Mosque.

As we will visiting places of various cultures and religions, cultural sensitivity needs to be acknowledged. As part the Muslim and Sikh traditions removal of shoes is required and the covering of hair before you enter their places of worship.

For ladies, A scarf can be used to cover hair and socks may be needed when shoe removal is required.

10:00 am — Departure (Ethnic Council)
10:15 am- Albanian Mosque (45 Minutes)
11:15 pm — Iraqi Mosque (45 minutes)
12:15 pm – Turkish Mosque (1 Hour and 15 Minutes)
13:45 pm – Afghani mosque (45 minutes)
14:45 pm — Sikh Temple (45 minutes)
4.00 pm- Return back to the Shepparton Library – End of Tour
