Light the Dark SHEPPARTON

light the dark SheppartonTaking up the Welcome to Refugees and #LightTheDark events in Capital Cities and Regional Cities around Australia last week, Shepparton will host LightTheDark Shepparton at Victoria Park Lake on Friday, 18 September at 6PM.

Last week, in cities and towns around the nation, over 60,000 Australians gathered to light the dark in memory of all lives lost and affected by war – supporting refugees in our community that already live here and welcoming those yet to come.

Together we're lighting the dark with our voices, our candles, and our hearts: refugees are welcome here. We’re expressing our Australian values of compassion, a fair go for all, helping the needy, and offering hope for those who seek a better life.

LightTheDark Shepparton will feature speakers sharing their own personal stories of their journeys and settlement in Shepparton and their experience of living today in our vibrant multicultural community.

The Candlelight Vigil commences at 6:PM until 7PM at Victoria Park Lake and bring your own candle. If you do not have a candle, we will be able to provide you with one.

This event will lead us into International Day of Peace on 21 September. The theme of this year’s commemoration is “Partnerships for Peace – Dignity for All” which aims to highlight the importance of all segments of society to work together to strive for peace.

This event is supported by organisations directly working with the ethnic communities who are helping new arrivals to our community to build their new lives in the Goulburn Valley. Any organisation which would like to support our local #LightTheDark Shepparton event, please send an email to liz@lizarcus.com and please include your logo.
