Multifaith Future Leaders Program
The B’nai Brith Anti Defamation Commission aims to promote respect and justice and oppose racism and hatred. They run many programs one of which is a Multifaith Future Leaders Program. The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) is accepting nominations for its Multifaith Future Leaders Program for young and upcoming religious leaders for a one-day program in July 2015.
Spiritual Activity and National Reconciliation Week
The Week of Prayer for Reconciliation and National Reconciliation Week are held each year between 27 May and 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the anniversaries of the successful 1967 referendum and the Mabo decision.
Tolerance Day Observance Resources for Schools
UN World Day of Tolerance is celebrated worldwide each year on 16 November. In 2014, many schools in the Shepparton district joined in the celebrations with classroom projects. Resources are available for those interested in planning their own observance.

Holy Week Observances in Shepparton
Holy Week is the commemoration of the last week of Jesus Christ’s ministry on Earth. Holy Week is the last week of Lent. It begins with Palm Sunday and leads up to Easter Sunday. Many churches have special services commencing from Palm Sunday. On Thursday evening of Holy Week, there is a celebration of the Lord’s Supper, and the action of the passion of Jesus Christ is observed on Good Friday – with Stations of the Cross and a reading of the Passion of Christ from one of the gospels. Easter Day – the day of resurrection of Jesus, is obsevered sometimes at Midnight, often with a dawn service commemorating the Resurrection, and services on Easter Day itself. Shepparton Festival’s Emerge at Twilight will take place at Victoria Park Lake on Saturday 21 March 2015 commencing from 4:00PM. Emerge at Twilight features many participants from the different cultural groups in Shepparton, and features the Yorta Yorta Dance Group Dangalla Dancers.

International Women’s Day – Conversations with Women
The Ethnic Communities Council of Shepparton and District will host an event “Conversations with Women” celebrating International Women’s Day on Friday, 6 March at Harder Auditorium, GOTAFE, Shepparton.
International Women’s Day has become a time to reflect on progress, to call for change and to celebrate the courage and determination of the women who changed history. In 1977, the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to proclaim March 8 as UN Day for Women’s Rights and World Peace.
Perceptions of Mary in Christianity, Judaism and Islam
International speaker Judith Dupre will visit Melbourne for a series of events in March. Among these lectures is one that may be of interest to those involved in Interfaith dialogue – “Perceptions of Mary in Christianity, Judaism and Islam”.
Social Justice and “A Fair Go”
Dr Frank Purcell gave an address on Social Justice for the observance of United Nations World Day of Social Justice at Harder Auditorium, Fryer St, Shepparton on Friday, 20 February at 2PM. Shepparton Mayor Denis Patterson addressed the meeting; Rashidi Sumaili of the Congolese Community and Sam Atukorala of the Sri Lankan Community gave responses.
FECCA Community Consultations
In March 2015, FECCA (Federation of Ethnic Communities Council of Australia) will be holding a number of community consultations to gather information about the experiences of Australia’s migrants and refugees in accessing government programs and services. The FECCA Community Consultations will take place in Shepparton on 10 and 11 March 2015.
Harmony Day at GV Health
Harmony Day celebrations at GV Health will centre around fabrics and sewing the word UNITY into many fabrics in the mother tongue of each community group. Sewing activity will take place on Monday, March 16 and Friday, March 20, during Cultural Diversity Week.
