Every year on 18 July — the day Nelson Mandela was born — the UN asks individuals around the world to mark Nelson Mandela International Day (18 July) by making a difference in their communities. In 2018, the 3rd Nelson Mandela Lecture, Shepparton will be delivered by former Premier Ted Ballieu, at the Latrobe University Campus.

Shepparton: NAIDOC WEEK 2018 ACTIVITIES



NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee) Week is an Australian observance lasting from the first Sunday in July until the following Sunday. NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The week is celebrated not just in the Indigenous communities but also in increasing numbers of government agencies, schools, local councils and workplaces. For 2018, NAIDOC WEEK will run from 8 – 15 July. Shepparton will celebrate NAIDOC Week 2018 with many local events.

Naidoc Week 2018 Because of her we can

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’. This committee was once responsible for organising national activities during NAIDOC Week and its acronym has since become the name of the week itself. In 2018, NAIDOC Week will be observed from nationally from Sunday 8 July and continue through to Sunday 15 July. The theme of the 2018 NAIDOC Week is Because of Her, We Can!
