When Christmas is for everyone

McIntosh Centre SheppartonHundreds will once again come together in friendship and fun for the annual Christmas For Those Alone Lunch in Shepparton this year. The McIntosh Centre is always packed with colour and fun for the annual Christmas For Those Alone Lunch on Christmas Day.

Committee president Steve Neff said all the usual festivities would be taking place at the Shepparton Showgrounds’ McIntosh Centre on December 25 with plenty of free food, a visit from Santa and gifts for children.

He said the day was about equality and presenting a shared experience for the whole community.

“Everybody is equal at the Christmas lunch – the volunteers, the diners, the children. People come from all different cultures and it’s for everyone, not just the lonely or the homeless. Everybody is treated equally,” he said.

Mr Neff said there would be free transport available for diners using buses provided by Fords. He thanked Fords, lunch volunteers, and the Shepparton Sikh community for supporting the annual event.

“I want to thank the Sikh community for their generous donation – the funds they have given us will help run the whole event,” he said.

The free two-course lunch is on Christmas Day from 11am to 2pm. Mr Neff said some volunteers were still needed. To volunteer, phone 0400 314 858. To book transport, phone 0499 774 114.
