Jewish Care: Family violence awareness campaign

Jewish Care Victoria has launched a new series of three posters aimed at helping to build awareness of family violence.

Launched to coincide with Tu B’Av, the series, entitled ‘Love Should Be Sweet’, features three eye-catching designs and was developed in consultation with victim-survivors of family violence.

Family Violence Poster - Love should be sweet
Each colourful poster draws on nostalgic childhood imagery to echo the ‘love bombing’ that often occurs in the early stages of abusive relationships or after an episode of violence, and illustrates the subtle and less commonly known signs of abuse. The posters also encourage people of all ages to reach out for support if something doesn’t feel right in their relationships.

The free posters will be distributed to schools, shuls, community organisations and groups. Perfect for noticeboards or the backs of toilet doors, the posters can be displayed individually or as a set.

Family Violence Poster - Relationships should feel safe
“Timing the release of this campaign with Tu B’Av is a reminder to us all that love should be sweet. This campaign aims to show that family violence is anything but,” said Cassandra Barrett, Team Leader of Healthy Communities at Jewish Care. “Violence is a choice, and it is never the victim’s fault.”

The series has been released as part of Jewish Care’s Family Violence Resource Program, which focuses on educating the Victorian Jewish community, groups, and organisations about family violence in order to reduce the incidence of violence and enhance bystander action.
